Multifamily owners are increasingly turning to on-site solar as an environmentally friendly way to reduce operating costs. While multifamily properties have made meaningful gains adopting solar heating since 2010, there is room to grow, especially in the small property sector. But as new research from Chandan Economics shows, small assets (5 to 49 units) are now outpacing large assets (50+ units) when it comes to the growth rate of solar energy adoption.
How Prevalent is Solar Heating in Small Properties?
While most green buildings aim at better utilization of utility resources, a smaller subset of such buildings also generate their own energy, primarily using solar thermal or photovoltaic technologies.
However, the adoption of on-site solar heating systems is extremely low across property types, and for apartment properties in particular. Learn more on ALEX Chatter!
